my creative space...

stocking sneak peek

I got a bit of a chance yesterday to make a start on my Christmas stocking for my stocking swap. Just a little sneak peek today. I am using the DMC precious metal threads for the first time. Thought it would add a little vintage glam to my stocking. Most of my favourite vintage chenille bedspreads from the 1950's have that silver mylar thread running through them, and I just love it. It's a bit hard to pick up in the photo, but I added one strand of the silver thread into the red and I plan on stitching other parts on my stocking with just the silver. I hope the finished stocking looks as good in reality as it all does in my head!

I noticed the silver thread straight away! :) Wow working on Christmas stockings already, it really isn't that far off now though is it.

Of course it will work out! It will be just beautiful I'm sure. Do you enjoy using metalic threads? I never have so avoid them now. They seem to get into a bit of a tangle from memory.

Looks like you are off to a great start! What is the pen you have used to do the outline of the letters? x

I find that metallic thread so hard to stitch with (even blended). I use the silver or gold machine thread...it seems more supple.

I think this piece will look lovely when it's done.

Looks good Selina. I second Kirsty, the DMC metallic is hard to work with.

Ah, sorry I missed this swap. Have had ideas for stockings running around in my head for a while now. Just have to let them come out of my fingers one day soon (I hope).
May what is in your head come to pass!

Oh I just adore the sight of blue pen and red thread. It is such a comforting sight and brings me so much joy. Strange really when you think about it - just more proof that it really is the little things.
