Blogtoberfest day 22: my creative space

This week has seen me with more hours at work. More hours at work = less time for creating.

So this week I'll show you what I have been obsessing about for about a month now. I have been searching ebay both morning and night for a dressmakers dummy. I thought of trying out what Gina at clutterpunk had done to make herself a dressmakers dummy, but my weight fluctuates quite a bit, so it's really not something that would work for me. Oh well, if I keep looking I'm bound to find one I can afford...right??

More creative types over here.

And don't forget to enter my blogtoberfest giveaway here.

I did the same thing, then waited till Lincraft put them on sale, much cheaper! And easier, too. Lincraft's are cheaper than Spotlights, too, and do the same job.

The old eBay dilemma. Sure you will probably end up getting a bargain but when? There is definately a time when you need to cut your losses and search elsewhere... but when? What if the perfect dummy is there tomorrow...????!!! Good luck with the search.

Yeah, much as I'd like to recommend Mrs Doubtfire as the way to go, I too have weight fluctuation 'issues' so it can be a bit sucky. Not that those dummies will be able to mimic the exact 'spare tyre' that gets loaded on, sadly...

I'm such a hack sewist though that I'm not really 'fitting' so much as draping, hanging, just getting the vibe! So it's very helpful to have the right shoulder width and slope and basic shape...
I do hope you find something that works.

happy hunting! Why is it when you are looking for something there is none around and the minute you get, they are everywhere!

Good luck - have you tried the Trading Post online?

I've been looking for an adjustable one for ages too (same weight fluctuation problem). I was just lamenting about it at work today.

I know some dummies, but I don't think they would stand in the same place long enough to be of much use to you ;)

I'd give Gina's idea a go (and still keep searching trusty ol ebay) at least you'll have your basic shape for now. Good luck to you. Peta

I hope you'll find a dummie that suits you. I have a Lewenstein Lady and like her very much, but I can imagine there are a lot of dummies that work fine. What I am missing is a dummie for my little ones! It happens so, so often that I am almost finished with someting and that I want to fit it to make the final adjustments and that it's just past their bedtime, so they are sleeping. And then I have to wait until the next morning. And then they have to get to school in time, so I have to hurry and don't have time to fit, so I have to wait the whole day until I can do the fitting and finishing the piece. (Do you hear some frustration there? Really? Nah, can't be! ;-)) So. A toddler dummy would be lovely. On the other hand: I probably would have to have three of them. And they would have to be adjustable up until they are grown. Hmm. Maybe I should just give up on this thought. I don't think that will work out in any way :-)
